Early Intervention and Question – Unit 1

Since I would like to do something charitable to benefit the people without shelter, I would love to discover more on the field of charity and philanthropy to have a closer look if there’s any hypocrisy behind the kind act. According to the two articles I’ve found out on The Guardian, the dark sides of the aid organizations, such as the Oxfam’s sexual abuse in Haiti in 2018, is nothing comes from nothing. Also, aid organization is a self-contained, closed group, the public is hard to examine whether they have put the fund in good use to aid in the people in need.

The transparency of the operation is urgent to take care of in this case. The aid organization should be a neutral medium between the public and the vulnerable. People empower them by money to give them credits to help the weak. But ironically, the organization hold the power and money which donated by the contributors against the vulnerable. It is not the contributors want to hear and see when they donate to the aid organization for sure.

The question I’ve came up with is, how can people’s donations empower aid organization’s malfeasance? So in this case, I want to explore more about the public’s intention when they contribute the money to the organization, to see if the people’s carelessness which they’ve made donations to the charity, is a factor for causing the issue.

The intervention of this project is that I would like to raise a program called, LoveMeSun, to raise the awareness towards the transparency of the operation of the aid organization. The contributors should have the rights to know where the funds went after they contributed to the charity. LoveMeSun is trying to monitor the organization’s operation on how they handle the contributors’ donations. This program will demand the NGO to expose every detail under the sun from where the fund goes, the comprehensive quality of staff to the actual movement for help the people in need.

I test my idea through questionnaire to ask several respondents who has been donated the money to the organizations. And I’ve found out that over half of them make donation is because they want to make themselves feel better, also half of them will do nothing or don’t care after their donation, either to look after the funds or to monitor the fund is in good use. But over sixty percent of them will happy if there’s an organization to monitor the operation of the organization, and over 70 percent of respondent claimed that the reputation of the organization will affect their intention to give donation.
